The N|Solid Runtime
The N|Solid Runtime is NodeSource's open source build of the Node.js LTS release lines, with a built-in diagnostics and monitoring agent. This page explains what the runtime is, which Node.js versions it tracks, and how it reports data.
Supported Node.js versions
The runtime keeps in step with upstream Node.js releases. It currently tracks these release lines:
- Node.js v24.x Krypton (Active LTS)
- Node.js v22.x Jod (Maintenance LTS)
Node.js v20.x Iron reached end-of-life on April 30, 2026. The final N|Solid release for that line is 20.20.2-nsolid-v6.2.4.
For feature releases, NodeSource generally releases within a few days of the upstream Node.js release. For upstream security releases, NodeSource releases an updated version of N|Solid within 48 hours.
How the runtime works
Use the N|Solid Runtime as a drop-in replacement for Node.js on your systems. Without configuration, it behaves the same as Node.js. Set one environment variable and it exports diagnostics and metrics to a centralized N|Solid Console, which gives you a single dashboard for all of your Node.js processes.
The runtime adds diagnostic hooks and monitors for internal runtime behavior. It also includes the N|Solid Agent, a native diagnostics and monitoring agent that runs in its own thread to minimize the performance impact on your application. This architecture gives the agent access to the Node.js internals that determine performance and resource use.
The N|Solid Agent inspects the performance of the core components of Node.js: V8 and libuv. It can send diagnostics and metrics to several kinds of endpoints:
- N|Solid Console: a two-way connection to N|Solid SaaS or a self-hosted N|Solid Console. Besides metrics, it lets you capture CPU profiles, heap snapshots, and more from any running process at the click of a button.
- OpenTelemetry (OTLP): exports traces and metrics to an OpenTelemetry collector or to Datadog, Dynatrace, or New Relic.
- StatsD: exports metrics to a StatsD daemon.
See Configuration to set up each connection.
