Copilot

N|Solid Copilot is an AI chat assistant built into the N|Solid Console. It helps developers and operations teams troubleshoot, optimize performance, and review the security of their Node.js applications, using the data in your Console.

Getting started

Prerequisites

Copilot requires the N|Solid MCP server. Until it's installed, active, and has a service token, the Copilot panel shows a message such as N|Solid MCP Server Required, N|Solid MCP Server Inactive, or N|Solid MCP Token Missing, and the AI Report buttons elsewhere in the Console are disabled. The AI Report buttons on CPU profiles and heap samples also require the AI service permission for your role.

To set it up:

1. In NodeSource Accounts, create a service token for the Console API with the permissions listed on the integration's About tab. See Service tokens.
2. In the Console, open Settings, expand Integrations, and select MCP Integrations (or click Go to MCP Integrations in the Copilot panel).
3. Select N|Solid, click Install, and enter your service token as the N|Solid Service Token.

Asking questions

Click the chat-bubble icon (AI Assistant) at the top right of any page to open the N|Solid Copilot panel, then type your question. Copilot responds with insights and recommendations based on your question.

You can ask about specific parts of your application, such as a metric, a performance issue, or a security concern.

Troubleshooting

Copilot can help you diagnose issues by:

• Analyzing error logs
• Identifying potential root causes
• Providing step-by-step troubleshooting guides

Performance optimization

Copilot can recommend ways to improve application performance, such as:

• Suggesting Node.js code improvements
• Identifying bottlenecks
• Advising on resource allocation

Questions about N|Solid and Node.js

Ask Copilot about:

• N|Solid features and usage
• Best practices for Node.js development
• Specific metrics and alerts

Analysis of your data

Ask Copilot to find performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, and other issues, and to analyze metrics such as CPU usage and event loop utilization. For example:

• What is the current CPU usage for app X?
• Have any memory leaks been detected recently?
• Can you suggest optimizations for event loop utilization?

Context

Copilot stays available as you move around the Console, so you can ask questions about what you're viewing.

Documentation search

Ask Copilot about the N|Solid ecosystem instead of searching the documentation.

Recommended actions

Copilot suggests prompts based on the current page, to help you get the most out of the feature you're viewing.

In a new conversation

When there's no chat history, Copilot shows a set of suggested prompts. The prompts, and how many there are, depend on the current page.

Inside a conversation

When you already have a conversation, click check these actions in the input box to show the suggested prompts again.

Tracing

You can ask about tracing and run complex tracing queries from any page, not only the Tracing page.

AI reports

CPU profiles

To get a diagnostic report for a CPU profile, open Assets > CPU Profiles, select the profile, and click AI Report. You can also click the AI icon on a profile row, or ask Copilot for a report by profile ID. AI reports aren't available for continuous CPU profiles. See Assets.

Heap samples

In Assets > Heap Samples, click the AI icon on a heap sample to get a diagnostic report for it.

Modules

In a process's Modules tab, open a package and click the AI icon (Generate AI report) to get a report based on its NCM data. See Single process view.

Vulnerabilities

In the Security Vulnerabilities view, click the AI icon (Generate AI report) on a vulnerability to get a report about it.

Opening pull requests with GitHub

If you install the GitHub MCP server under Settings > Integrations > MCP Integrations, Copilot can open a pull request in your GitHub repository with the code changes recommended in an AI report. See MCP integrations.

Clearing history

Click the avatar icon at the top of the Copilot panel and select CLEAR CONVERSATIONS. The same menu has a HELP & FAQ link to this page.
